Subs in Boca are a serious commitment. You’re either hitting a Mizner lunch spot or braving Federal Highway for a parking spot that doesn't exist.

So trust me, I did the work. I ate a comically huge chicken cutlet at AJ’s and a legendary pastrami Reuben at Beauregard’s, and I still had room for a jumbo croissant.

The range here runs from a French oasis making the best baguettes in Florida to a no-frills deli with unmatched corned beef hash. Your stomach will hate you.

Your taste buds will throw a parade.

I stopped into AJ's for lunch near Mizner. The subs are huge. Like, comically huge. Great bread that holds everything together. I went with the chicken cutlet. Crispy. Home-style. Tastes like someone's nonna made it. Portions are fresh, and the staff actually seems happy to see you. That's rare. It's a solid lunch spot. Nothing fancy. Just a good, honest sub. I left full and weirdly optimistic. I'll be back. Probably next week.

Capitini's West is a dangerous place. The portions are shareable. You'll want to share. Then you'll take half home and eat it at 11 p.m. The Philly cheesesteak is a 100/10. I don't make the rules. It's just that good. Hot honey wings? Addictive. I ate too many. No regrets. The place is fresh and clean. Welcoming, too. And the price is right. Great value for what you get. This is the kind of spot you tell your friends about, then pretend you didn't so they don't crowd it.

The service is impossibly fast. Fresh, too. There's an expert staff. Ask for Brian. He knows what's up. Classic big-flavor breakfasts are their thing. I had corned beef hash and eggs. It hit the spot. The place hums with energy. Old-school feel. The kind of spot where everyone knows the drill. Now I do too.

Gourmet Market is a French oasis. French imports done right. The best baguettes in Florida. I'm not exaggerating. Crackly crust. Soft inside. Sandwiches that truly transport you. I had one with ham and butter. Simple. Perfect. They have premium foie gras. I splurged. Worth it. The garlic butter is a must-buy. I put it on everything now. The market feels like a tiny slice of Paris. Cluttered in a good way. You'll wander. You'll buy too much. You'll be happy about it.

Warm bread, melted brie, a little sweetness. The best iced mocha outside Montreal. Trust me. I've tested this. They have a secret French salad dressing. I tried to guess the ingredients. Failed. It's tangy and rich. I want to bathe in it. The whole place feels like a quick trip abroad. Small. Intimate. Wonderful.

New York Marina Deli is old-school. No frills. I love it. The corned beef hash is unmatched. Crispy edges. Tender middle. It's the benchmark now. The spot is hidden inside a plaza. You'll find it. There's patio seating and indoor options. Both fine. Parking is a breeze. That's rare in Boca. I sat outside. Watched the world go by. The sandwich was simple. Pastrami on rye. Mustard. It worked. The no-frills charm is real. This is a place for purists. I appreciate it.

Thousand island slathered on. Generous portions. Fresh ingredients. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They know their meats. Premium cuts. Specialty goods. Old-school charm meets modern quality. I grabbed a sausage to take home. Also great. This is the place for a serious sandwich. Not for the faint of heart. Go hungry.

Highlights
Fresh when dining in
Terrible takeout consistency
Friendly staff and service
Plenty of indoor seating
Bagels hit or miss

BagelWorks is a mixed bag. Literally. Dine in? Fresh. Bagels are still warm. Takeout? Terrible. I've gotten stale bagels more than once. It's frustrating. The staff is great. Friendly. Helpful. Plenty of indoor seating. That's a plus. But the bagels themselves are hit or miss. One day, a perfect everything bagel. The next, a hockey puck. I want to love this place. It has the bones. The consistency isn't there. If you go, eat in. Skip the to-go. It's a gamble otherwise. I'll still go back. I'm an optimist.

Karaoke and trivia nights are a blast. Very loud. The perfect spot to relax. Nothing fancy. Just a good time. The sandwich I had was solid. Fresh turkey. Crisp lettuce. It's not a gourmet sub. It's a comfortable one. That's the point. You come for the vibe. You stay for the games. Good stuff.
